There has been plans made for two additional hearings. We will post updates once we have all the information.

We understand the frustration around the hearing on Friday evening. While we would have wanted to have the hearing, there would have been a very real risk of future challenges and issues. We know how important that these proceeding follow a strict process.

We want to share an update on what happened at the hearing on Friday evening.

There was an administrative procedural issue that held up the Public Notice sent to the Pocono Record as required by Law. Apparently, an email exchange was missed, so the hearing was never properly published. By law the notice is required to published for a period of time prior to the meeting. Without the proper Public Notice, any hearing proceedings would have be subject to appeal by any of the parties. The hearing is a quasi-judicial process that must be carefully administered.

We have not been notified by the Zoning Hearing Board Solicitor or our Attorney when the next hearing will take place. We do know that discussion have taken place to agree on future hearing dates and to make sure this situation does not happen again.

We want to thank everyone in the community that had come to the hearing Friday evening to participate in this challenge. It is important that we continue to be diligent and not be deterred.

HISTORY

In December 2025, the Tobyhanna Township Supervisors Adopted a Data Center Overlay District on the Pennsylvania Glacial Till, LLC. property on Caughbaugh Rd, in Blakeslee, between Route 115 & Locust Ridge Road (Arrowhead Lake). This property is adjacent to the
Lehigh River

This overlay ordinance was created for the benefit of a single property owner to the detriment of all the other property owners in this rural residential zone..

This, by definition, is considered spot zoning and is illegal.

This is urgent. The county’s largest industrial complex — up to 3 MILLION square feet of data center buildings – is proposed for the northwestern section of our township. If our group’s legal challenge to the data center overlay is successful, data centers will not be permitted in our rural community.

Protect Rural Tobyhanna Township (PRTT) is a non-profit organization, created by a group of your fellow residents, who are battling the township’s decision to create a zoning district that permits data centers in the midst of our rural community. We have filed a legal challenge to the township’s new Data Center Overlay in order to preserve and protect the character and pristine environment of Tobyhanna Township’s rural and conservation areas.
